Manulife Building
Assembly – Offices
Toronto, ON
Project Overview
The Manulife Corporate Toronto Head Office complex consists of 3 high-rise office towers and a multi-level parking garage. LRI conducted an audit of the fire alarm and Life Safety systems in all buildings and initiated a fire alarm system retrofit. The 17-storey East Tower of the complex, located at 250 Bloor Street East, is the final phase of the Fire Alarm System (FAS) retrofit for the entire complex. The new East Tower FAS was integrated into the main complex FAS network using the latest panels and technologies. As a result, all buildings are now served by a single networked Fire Alarm System (FAS). LRI prepared the FAS retrofit design drawings and specifications for bidding and construction, provided recommendations and technical clarification during the construction phase and conducted testing to validate interconnections with all other building Fire and Life Safety systems. Upon completion, we performed the Integrated Systems Testing (IST) for the office complex from design, implementation, reporting, and final approval to CAN/ULS S1001.
Our impact on the project
Because of our understanding of the Manulife office building infrastructure and proven expertise in Fire Alarm Systems Retrofit and Integration, LRI was given the opportunity to conduct the Integrated Systems Compliance Test. This testing ensured that all Life Safety systems were properly integrated with the Fire Alarm System, thus providing the building with official CAN/ULC-S1001 certification. We also provided information to the Client regarding the new code requirement, the testing procedure and the roles and requirements for all parties involved in the testing process. LRI is one of the few organizations in Canada listed and approved by the ULC for Level 4 IST testing.
