Project Overview
LRI provided Building Code Peer Review services to the Winnipeg Airport Authority (WAA) for the new construction project consisting of a new Airport Terminal Building and parking garage. Services included review of design concepts, construction documents and site construction for overall compliance with the National and Manitoba Building Codes. LRI witnessed the operational testing of fire protection systems for final acceptance and reviewed proposed system structures and sequencing. We were responsible for concept and drawing reviews, site inspection and liaison with WAA Project Managers on Fire and Life Safety issues. The airport opened to the public in October 2011. Following the opening, LRI provided the WAA with Building Code and Fire Protection Systems consulting services for subsequent projects for the coming years.
Our impact on the project
LRI’s contributions were instrumental to the project’s success. By skillfully navigating negotiations with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), we were able to save time and money while maintaining the project’s momentum. Our phased occupancy approach allowed for early leasing and income generation, demonstrating efficient project management across multiple stakeholders and timelines. LRI has extensive experience providing code, systems, and Fire & Life Safety services to domestic and international airports.
