Experience Profile: Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan

Opened in 2017, the Remai Modern Art Gallery is a bright and inviting space
for modern and contemporary art.

The Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan is located on the west bank of the South Saskatchewan River, at River Landing, in Saskatoon. This luminous building is four-storeys in height and contains two levels of underground parking, and a gross floor area of 16,300 m2.

The project involved the design and construction of a new building comprising four galleries, a 150-seat theatre/auditorium, a multi-purpose room that can accommodate functions for up to 350 visitors, and other associated retail and service amenities, administration, and support areas. Unique design challenges in regard to exiting, gave rise to the need to address compliance with Building Code requirements, through the development of an Alternative Solution. 

LRI was involved as a sub-consultant to the Project Architect, Smith Carter Architects (now Architecture49), and provided a comprehensive array of fire protection and life safety consulting services. These services included Building Code approach development, plans review, preparation of reports, development of Alternative Solutions, and consultation with the Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
