Luminato Festival
Assembly – Performing Arts
Toronto, ON
Project Overview
Toronto’s Luminato Festival is one of the top annual art festival dedicated to contemporary artworks. Luminato works at the intersection of artists, spectators, and city spaces to produce unique experiences. For its 10th anniversary celebration in 2016, the festival was relocated to the decommissioned Richard L. Hearn Generating Stations, a historic building located in the heart of Toronto’s Port Lands. LRI was called upon to help in a manner of services to make the new location code compliant with respect to fire and life safety.
Our impact on the project
The 10th Anniversary edition of Luminato was an exceptional year for the festival, as it achieved a higher profile than any previous year since its launch. The company’s ambition to create a remarkable cultural event in a single resident space was achieved by changing many of the festival’s previous parameters. This allowed audiences and artists to become more interconnected in one uniquely atmospheric historical building. LRI reviewed the theatre layout to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code. Additionally, LRI assessed exiting and load capacity and examined all relevant code requirements pertaining to fire protection, life safety, barrier-free accessibility and Fire Safety planning.
