WHO WE ARE – LRI Engineering Inc. (LRI) is a professional engineering company specializing in fire protection engineering, Building and Fire Codes consulting, emergency planning, and accessibility consulting. Founded in 1986, LRI assists clients with achieving the level of life safety mandated by Building and Fire Codes.
THE CHALLENGE – Canadian Building Codes do not adequately address many of the unique and challenging attributes of sports and entertainment venues. Such buildings typically incorporate fixed seating for large numbers of people and can include both loose seating or standing space for crowds on the event floor. Multiple interconnected storeys are often configured in a manner that presents further challenges from a life safety perspective. Building Code requirements do not deal with high density occupant load configurations, especially within interconnected floor spaces, in a manner that allows for effective, practical design solutions.
Alternative means for evaluation is required for high-quality designs. Owners and their design teams responsible for the creation of these venues need to apply rigorous thought processes and methodologies to balance competing project objectives, while maintaining the level of safety for building occupants that is expected of world-class facilities.
LRI EXPERIENCE – LRI is Canada’s foremost fire protection engineering firm in the field of Building Code consulting and related services for sports and entertainment venues.
